Energent Announces Planned Retirement of Matthew Brown and Leadership Transition
Brown granted Chairman Emeritus designation; will continue serving as Chairman through leadership expansion and retire from the role in December
NEW YORK AND DALLAS — September 28, 2026 — Energent, L.P. today announced the planned retirement of Matthew Brown as Chairman, consistent with retirement plans established during the first quarter of 2026. Brown has been granted the honorary designation of Chairman Emeritus in recognition of his contributions to the firm and will continue serving as Chairman through the completion of Energent’s leadership and governance expansion in December 2026.
During the transition period, Brown will remain actively involved in Energent’s corporate strategy, organizational development, operating initiatives and long-term strategic relationships.
Brown is expected to retire from his active role as Chairman upon completion of the transition in December, at which time the Chairman Emeritus designation will continue. Energent expects to announce its expanded leadership team and board in December and to outline their respective responsibilities as part of the transition.
The expansion is intended to distribute leadership responsibilities more broadly and strengthen the firm’s management, governance and oversight as Energent enters its next phase of development. Brown will work with the firm’s leadership through the transition to support continuity and the orderly transfer of responsibilities.
“I began planning this retirement in the first quarter of this year,” Brown said. “It is important that Energent’s future rests on a capable team with clear responsibilities and the support of a fuller board. I am grateful to everyone who has contributed to the firm during my last ten years as General Partner. I intend to remain fully engaged through the transition and look forward to passing the torch to the expanded leadership team in December.”
“The Board is grateful for Matthew’s leadership and the firm he has helped build over the past decade,” Energent’s Board said. “We are pleased that he will remain actively involved as Chairman through this important period of expansion and transition. His continued involvement will provide continuity as responsibilities are transferred to the expanded leadership team and board, and we look forward to continuing to benefit from his perspective following his retirement.”
Brown intends to devote more of his time to philanthropic initiatives aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. “Infrastructure has been central to my work for the majority of my life,” Brown added.
“Going forward, I want to give the majority of my time and resources to work that helps communities obtain dependable energy and build the infrastructure they need, as well as expand access to medicines, treatments, clean water and nutritious food.”
Brown plans to continue dividing his time primarily between North Shore, Hawaii, and Southern California while maintaining longstanding ties to Texas, where Energent has significant roots and operations.
